Jesus did not at any time say that he was going to die to save anybody. He died to show us the way to die to our flesh sense so that we will have eternal spiritual life. The following are his prescriptions.
1. And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23.
Self-denial is not self-rejection it is the daily rejecting of the dictates and persuasions of the senses of the flesh; of Sight, Smell, Touch, Taste and Hearing and follow what is in harmony only with spiritual growth. Deny that self that is easily hurt, feels proud, is in competition with others, wants to have all the wealth only to die and leave it all; that self that feels superior to others and finds things to condemn others for; that self that feels separate from others and from life, that does not see its connectedness with all of life. Deny that self and that requires huge spiritual disciplines and practices.
Take up your own cross means face your unique life challenges using both your pains and pleasures to glorify God. You are not to regard Jesus as special whose death gives you diplomatic access to heaven. You must work out your own salvation Philippians 2:12. And if you die with him, then you are resurrected in your spirit to live with him, that is, to live in the realm of his spiritual consciousness, which is heaven. 2 Timothy 2: 11.
2. So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. He who eats My flesh and drinks My

blood abides in Me, and I in him. Jesus was saying that unless you follow him religiously and forego all earthly things, you will lose your life; JOHN 6: 53-56.
Simplistic minds take this to mean the eating of Holy Communion. To eat of the flesh of Jesus and drink his blood means you have to be like him in the flesh and in the spirit. Often you hear people say that Jesus was special and we cannot be like him. His demand is clear; special or not special you are to respond to every situation like Jesus would do in the body and in the spirit; there is no other easy way. You are to have the physical and spiritual Christ characters of Jesus.
To be like Jesus, you always ask yourself: “In what ways am I like Jesus? What is my Christ decision in this situation?” Often, you rather want to feel distant from Jesus by considering him special and in a height you cannot be. Contrary he wants you to be fully like him in his flesh and spiritual character. And Scripture says that you are joint heirs with him. Romans 8:17.
3. Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus; who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with GOD. Philippians 2:5-6.
This is the Christian goal and it demands of you to have the Christ mind that will make you realize and live as god without a sense of guilt or fear. This is in harmony with Jesus’s teaching that you are god John 10:34; because we are all created in the spiritual image and in the form of God Genesis. 1:26-27.
For God so loved the world that he gave his begotten son not to be slaughtered in sacrifice to Him but to show you the way to your salvation.
